Fatal motor vehicle incident involving train

On September 30, 2026, at approximately 2:00pm, Maple Ridge RCMP responded to a report of a motor vehicle incident involving a train in the 25700 block of Lougheed Highway.
Officers on scene learned that a pickup truck was struck by a train in the area. The vehicle sustained significant damage and two individuals associated to the vehicle were located on scene. An adult female was pronounced deceased by BC Emergency Heath Services, and an adult male was transported to hospital in critical condition. No other injuries were reported.
The train operator is cooperating, and CPKC Police have been notified.
The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) has been called out.
Officers spoke to potential witnesses on scene and are looking into all possible factors. The investigation is ongoing.
