Mounties have a “wheely” good time at local school teaching bike safety

Students at Chief Matthews School got a hands-on lesson in bike safety on Tuesday, September 29, as Massett RCMP officers attended and supported an exciting bike rodeo designed to promote safe cycling through fun and engaging activities.

Around 40 students attended the two-hour session, where Corporal Vandermeulen and Corporal Premerl provided bike safety awareness training and helped the students learn how to manoeuvre their bikes through an obstacle course. 

“This type of outreach is really important, both for the community and for our police officers working there,” states Corporal Jennifer Cooper, BCRCMP Spokesperson for Northern B.C. “Bike safety is an important skill for students to learn, as it helps to keep them safe as they move through their community. It also helps our police officers to develop positive relationships with the kids, when they can interact in a fun and active way.”

Massett RCMP extends its thanks to the school for inviting them to participate in the bike rodeo and they look forward to attending future events with the students and staff.
