First responders in Mission attended to a single-vehicle collision on Dewdney Trunk Road near Wilson Street around 12:45 pm on August 23, after a blue Ford Edge crashed into a utility pole. A witness reported that the car had been travelling eastbound at a high rate of speed and was passing another vehicle in the opposing lane, when it quickly tried to get back into its own lane to avoid an oncoming westbound vehicle.  The driver lost control and crashed.  The 17-year-old female passenger was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  The 18-year-old driver was issued a ticket for driving without due care and attention.

On the evening of August 19, an officer was conducting patrols near Lougheed Highway and Haig Street, when he spotted a suspicious vehicle backed into the corner of a parking lot, with one person sitting in the driver’s seat, and two other people leaning in and talking to the driver.  The vehicle was determined to have been involved in prior drug trafficking investigations, and illegal items were clearly visible inside the vehicle. Three persons were arrested, and a search of the vehicle turned up various items consistent with drug trafficking, including separate packages of suspected heroin, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, and fentanyl.  All items were seized and the investigation is ongoing.

A car crashed into a building at 1st Avenue and James Street on the afternoon of August 19.  The 65-year-old female driver was assessed by paramedics, but did not have any serious injuries.  Fortunately, no one else was injured in the incident, and although the building sustained some damage, it was determined not be of structural concern.  It is believed that driver error caused the collision.

On August 12, a 36-year-old man was released by the courts, on a Probation Order that prohibited him from going to two specific grocery stores in Mission.  On the afternoon of August 19, the same man was allegedly outside one of those stores, harassing employees.  He then returned to the same store shortly before midnight, and was reportedly trying to enter a fenced area outside the store.  Mission RCMP attended and arrested the man, and held him in custody to appear before a Judge the next day.

A concerned citizen called Mission RCMP on the evening of August 21 to report that a group of people – including children – had travelled by boat to a small island in the Stave River, and had setup tents on the island.  The citizen advised that the dam upstream of there regularly releases water, and that when it does, the island disappears under water.  An officer attended and was able to call out to the group and notify them that they needed to leave, or could be at risk of being caught in rapidly rising waters.  The group packed up and returned safely to shore.  Anyone recreating in the area of a dam should always check for related info on BC Hydro’s website, and assess the potential risks before entering the water.

The windows of two vehicles parked along the Norrish Creek Forest Service Road were smashed sometime overnight on August 21-22.  Nothing was reported stolen from the vehicles.  Anyone who has information about these incidents, or had similar mischief done to their vehicles in that area should call Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161, file 26-11133.

Around 9:30 am on August 20, Mission RCMP responded to the report of a man walking along London Avenue, carrying a machete, talking to himself and acting erratically.  Officers attended and located the man.  He had existing court conditions not to possess any knives or weapons, so he was arrested and held to be brought before a Judge.  No one was injured as the result of his actions.
