Calls of interest:
Shortly before 1 am on September 4, a Mission RCMP officer was conducting proactive patrols when he spotted a suspicious vehicle parked along Logan Avenue, with a male in the driver’s seat. When the officer approached the vehicle, he saw on a police database that the vehicle was associated to recent investigations from Vancouver Police, New Westminster Police, and Metro Vancouver Transit Police, where the vehicle or its owner had fled from police in all of those instances. As a result, Mission officers proactively boxed-in the vehicle, to prevent it from fleeing. The driver got out, denied driving, stated he did not have a driver’s license, then suddenly took off running. The man was advised he was under arrest for obstructing a peace officer, but continued running for a short distance until officers were able to get control of the man and took him into custody. He was arrested for obstruction of a peace officer, as well as possession of stolen property, after a stolen license plate was also allegedly found in his vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
An officer with Mission RCMP’s Traffic Services Unit was monitoring traffic on Cedar Street on the afternoon of September 1, when a white Tesla travelling northbound on Cedar Street caught his eye due to how quickly it was moving. The officer activated his laser radar and determined that the car was moving at nearly 100 km/hr in the 50 km/hr zone. The officer pulled it over near 10th Avenue and determined that the driver only had a United Kingdom driver’s license, yet had been living in BC for two years, meaning that his UK driver’s license was no longer valid. The driver received tickets for excessive speed and no driver’s license, and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
On the evening of August 31, a group of youth aged 11-13 years old were reportedly swearing, throwing things, and damaging a tree in the area of Melburn Drive, then started sitting on a fence bordering a residential property. The property owners told the youth to get off the fence, which reportedly led to one of the youth swearing at the homeowners and brandishing a knife before running away. Mission RCMP officers located the group nearby, and arrested the youth who had allegedly displayed the knife. The youth, a 13-year-old who is known to police, was released with a court date and conditions not to possess knives or return to the area of that residence.
Mission RCMP were called to the Legion around 4:30 pm on September 1, after a woman, who appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, refused to leave the premises, and began spitting on people and punching people in the face. When police arrived, the woman tried to run away, but an officer quickly caught up with her. While police were trying to get control of the woman, she spat blood into an officer’s eyes and face. She was arrested for assault, obstructing a peace officer, and assaulting a peace officer. The officer who had the blood spit into her eyes went to the hospital as a precaution for any contagious diseases.
