Get ready Mission, this year’s Cops for Cancer ride will be coming through town on Thursday September 17!
Cops for Cancer is an annual cycling event put on by first responders and the Canadian Cancer Society, which helps to raise money for pediatric cancer research, and to send children to Camp Goodtimes – an amazing summer camp for children and youth affected by cancer.
This year’s Cops for Cancer Tour de Valley has 19 riders who have been fundraising and training for the ride throughout the spring and summer months, and are now riding hundreds of kilometres through various Fraser Valley communities, all the while continuing to raise awareness and funds for Camp Goodtimes and the Canadian Cancer Society.
Everyone is encouraged to come show your support for the riders…their peloton (group of cyclists) is quite impressive! They’ll be riding over from Abbotsford in the early afternoon, touring Mission, then riding back to Abbotsford later in the day. The best places to see them are:
- Valley Christian School on Cedar Street, around 1:45 – 2:00 pm;
- West Heights Elementary School on Wren Street / Van Velzen Avenue, around 2:15 pm – 2:35 pm;
- Mission RCMP, around 2:40 pm – 2:54 pm;
- Lougheed Highway from Mission RCMP, through the downtown core, over the Horne Street overpass, stopping in the Chances Casino parking lot around shortly after 3 pm, before heading back to Abbotsford.
*Note that times are subject to change.
