Calls of interest:

On the evening of October 8, police attempted a traffic stop with the rider of an electric dirt bike in the area of Lougheed Highway and the Cedar Valley Connector.  The rider told the officer, “you’re not taking my bike”, then sped away north on the Cedar Valley Connector.  He was located a short time later on Tunbridge Avenue and arrested for flight from police.  The 41-year-old displayed signs of being impaired by liquor, and refused to provide a sample into a roadside screening device.  As a result, he received a 90-day driving prohibition, related violation tickets, and the officer did take his bike…to the tow yard.  Everyone is reminded that electric dirt bikes are not legal to ride on the streets, and riders can face fines for no-insurance and other penalties.

A resident reported a possible impaired driver in a white Range Rover near 4th Avenue in Mission around 11pm on October 5th.  Mission RCMP attended and found the Range Rover stopped in the middle of an alleyway nearby.  The woman in the driver’s seat appeared to be intentionally ignoring police, but officers opened the door and observed that she was showing symptoms of being impaired by drugs.  She allegedly resisted arrest and tried to kick officers while being taken into custody. Suspected Fentanyl, illicit mushrooms, and prescription pills were located in the vehicle.  The 48-year-old woman from Langley also had a fake temporary license plate taped to her window.  She was issued a driving prohibition and her vehicle was impounded.

A witness called police around 8:20 pm on October 5, after seeing two people seemingly tampering with pedestrian crossing lights on Hurd Street near Scott Avenue.  A Mission RCMP officer responded and confirmed that loose wiring was hanging down from the crosswalk light pole.  He conducted patrols of the area, and found a vehicle parked at a coffee shop nearby, with two of the three people in the vehicle matching the description of the suspects.  Drug paraphernalia was also visible inside the vehicle.  The officer arrested all three, and located a small amount of Fentanyl, a large amount of cannabis, and a baton.  No evidence relating to the crossing lights was located, so they were released from custody, however the driver showed signs of being impaired by drugs and received a 24-hour driving prohibition and vehicle impound.

On October 5, between 6:30 am and 6:45 am, there were two reports of wildlife being struck by vehicles.  A pickup truck hit a deer near Cedar Street and Dewdney Trunk Road, and an SUV hit a bear on Lougheed Highway near Shook Road.  While many wildlife encounters cannot be avoided, the public is reminded to use extra caution at this time of year – especially when driving near forested areas – as some wildlife can be more active before the winter months.

A 72-year-old woman from Mission was scammed out of over $10,000 recently, after being contacted by someone who claimed to be an employee of the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.  The suspect told the woman that her debit and credit cards had been compromised, and they would send over an investigator to collect her compromised cards.  A male attended her residence and she provided him with her cards and PIN numbers, only to later realize it was a scam.  If you are ever suspicious of someone claiming to be from a legitimate company or organization, do not provide any personal information to them.  Instead, ask for their name, look up the organization online, and contact them through a publicly listed number.  Never provide your bank or credit card PIN numbers to anyone.
