Traffic Services - Mission RCMP

Traffic Services at the Mission RCMP Detachment is committed to improving road safety and reducing serious injuries and fatalities through proactive enforcement, public education, and community partnerships. Our work supports the principles of the BC Road Safety Strategy and its Safe System approach, which recognizes that road safety is a shared responsibility among road users, law enforcement, government agencies, and the community.

Our goal is to help keep Mission’s roadways safe for all users — including drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and other vulnerable road users — through the Three E’s of Traffic Safety: Education, Enforcement, and Engineering. Using data-driven enforcement and targeted traffic safety initiatives, Traffic Services focuses on high-risk driving behaviours such as impaired driving, distracted driving, excessive speed, and other unsafe driving practices that contribute to collisions and injuries.

Traffic Services works closely with municipal partners, schools, provincial agencies, and community organizations on a variety of traffic safety initiatives aimed at collision reduction, public awareness, and improving overall community safety. Through collaboration, proactive enforcement, and public engagement, Mission RCMP remains committed to creating safer roads for everyone in our community.

Some of the activities and projects include:

  • Anti-impaired/CounterAttack driving programs
  • Speed reduction programs
  • Speed watch – Three strikes program
  • Targeted enforcement of high volume traffic/high collision intersections
  • Investigation of serious motor vehicle accidents
  • Education and awareness programs, and
  • Assistance to special events (parades and other large public gatherings)
In British Columbia there are approximately 274 Provincial Traffic members and an additional 165 Municipal Traffic members. There are nine Municipal Traffic sections in the LMD with a total of 129 Traffic members. Mission has three Traffic members.
