Police seek witnesses after community signs vandalized

Vandalized sign at Aulds Rd and HW 19A

The Nanaimo RCMP is seeking witnesses following the vandalism of two community signs located along Island Highway North. The incident is believed to have occured sometime between between 6:00 p.m. on March 18 and 6:00 p.m. on March 19, 2026, at the following locations:

  • Island Highway North at Departure Bay Road
  • Island Highway North at Aulds Road

The signs, associated with a federal petition from the Iranian community, were found to have been spray painted black. The damage was reported to police on March 23, 2026. (see attached photos)

Investigators are asking anyone who may have observed suspicious activity in the area during the time periods noted, or who may have dash camera or security camera footage, to please contact police.
