Charges laid in 2025 Nanaimo homicide

On the morning of November 14, 2025, police received a report of a woman missing from Nanaimo, B.C. 

Nanaimo RCMP officers attended to multiple locations connected to her disappearance and ultimately located 65-year-old Sherry Shelley deceased. The Nanaimo Serious Crime Unit assumed conduct of the investigation with assistance from the B.C Coroners Service. 

The Nanaimo Serious Crime Unit conducted a meticulous investigation and prepared a comprehensive report for the B.C. Prosecution Service for charge approval. 

Update: 2026-07-21

The BC Prosecution Services approved charges of second-degree murder and indignity to human remains for Cameron Compton and on the evening of July 20, 2026, members of the Nanaimo RCMP Serious Crime Unit arrested Cameron Compton. He is currently in custody awaiting a court appearance on July 21, 2026.
