Two adults arrested in connection to series of shoplifting incidents

On September 22, 2026, Nanaimo RCMP officers arrested a 40-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man following an investigation into repeated thefts from the BC Liquor Store located at Port Place Mall.

During the month of September, the pair are alleged to have been involved in nine separate police investigations involving the theft of liquor and breaches of court-imposed conditions. As a result of these investigations, Nanaimo RCMP are forwarding a total of 15 recommended charges to the BC Prosecution Service for consideration.

Both were held in custody overnight and appeared in Nanaimo Provincial Court on Wednesday September 23, 2026, where they were remanded in custody until September 29, 2026. 

“Retail theft is not a victimless crime and can have a significant impact on local businesses and their employees, “said Inspector Donovan Tait, Operations Officer for the Nanaimo RCMP.
