Ladysmith RCMP file # 2026-3583

Nanaimo RCMP and Ladysmith RCMP are asking anyone who may have witnessed suspicious behaviour near the Nanaimo River in early September to contact police. This is a Ladysmith RCMP investigation. However, due to proximity of the two detachments and location of the offence, the Nanaimo RCMP have been asked to assist with the media release.

At approximately 3 PM on Monday September 7, 2026, a woman reported observing an adult male allegedly commit an indecent act while she was recreating near the Nanaimo River. The woman said the area was just north of Spruston Road, close to the boundary between Nanaimo and Ladysmith RCMP jurisdictions.

The male is described as:

  • White
  • Approximately late 50s
  • Slim build
  • Under 183 cm (6 feet) tall
  • Balding on top with light brown hair on the sides
  • Last seen wearing light blue swim shorts and carrying a blue towel

Investigators are releasing a composite sketch prepared with the assistance of the complainant in hopes that someone may recognize the individual. Anyone who was in the area indicated between 2 PM and 4 PM on September 7, 2026, or anyone who may have information that could assist investigators in identifying the male, is asked to contact the Ladysmith RCMP non-emergency at 250-245-2215.
