Investigators are hoping the public can provide them with information and a timeline for a man who was last seen in December 2023 and whose remains were found 18 months later in Nelson.

On December 24, 2023, Christopher Newton, a 33-year-old Indigenous male, was last confirmed to be in the area of 2-Mile near Nelson, BC. On January 3, 2025, Mr. Newton was reported missing to the Nelson Police Department.

On March 17, 2026, the RCMP Southeast District General Investigations Section took conduct of the missing person file for further investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mr. Newton’s death.

“There remain many unanswered questions about what happened to Christopher,” said Corporal Meghan Foster, non-commissioned officer in charge of Southeast District General Investigation Section.

Investigators want to speak with anyone who may have seen Mr. Newton or associated with him between December 24, 2023, and June 4, 2025, when police were alerted to the presence of human remains in the Nelson North Shore 2 -Mile area.

On March 2, 2026, the BC Coroners Service confirmed the identity of the deceased to be Christopher Newton.

Christopher’s mother, Christine Moore, pleads, “As Christopher’s mother, I live every day with the heartbreak of missing my son and still not knowing the full truth of what happened to him. Our family carries that pain with us every single day. Christopher was deeply loved, and he should still be here. We believe someone knows more than they have said, and even the smallest piece of information could help bring us closer to answers. If you know something, we are asking you to please come forward. Please do not let our family go on living with these unanswered questions while the truth is still being kept in silence. Christopher mattered. He was loved beyond words. And he deserves truth and justice.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Southeast District General Investigation Section at 250‑470‑6222, quoting file number 2026‑856. Those wishing to remain anonymous may contact Crime Stoppers at 1‑800‑222‑8477 (TIPS).
