The winner of this year’s RCMP “Name the Puppy Contest” for the province of British Columbia is Elisa, from the Lower Mainland.
Corporal Teresa Carter and Police Service Dog (PSD) Loni, from the Lower Mainland District Integrated Police Dog Service (LMD IPDS) had the honour of presenting Elisa with her prize for submitting one of the chosen puppy names, “Anchor”. Elisa was super excited that included with her prize was a photo of Anchor.
Every year our RCMP Police Dog Service Training Centre (PDSTC) in Innisfail, Alberta runs a contest for children across the country to help choose names for our newest German Shepperd puppies. Each year a new letter is chosen to be the first letter of all the names. All the dogs born in 2025 will have names starting with the letter “A”.
Did you know that the RCMP has their own breeding program? Every year new pups are born at PDSTC and from seven to eight weeks old until about 12 to 24 months they live with RCMP officers across the country. At approximately two years old, following extensive training, the team is ready to begin working on the road.
Anchor is now five months old and currently living in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland while she begins her training to hopefully become a Police Service Dog.
Stay tuned for next years “Name the Puppy Contest” and thank you to Elisa for submitting a great name!
