Safety Talk

Many young people do not realize how the online world can turn a positive experience into a negative experience in a single click. Once clicked the consequences are challenging to untangle, sometimes impossible to make right.  Many young people get exploited online without realizing it until it is too late. That money transfer, image, or content has been sent without full understanding to the consequences it will have.

As a parent or caregiver here are some tips to follow to keep your young person safe online:

  • Talk often about their online activities to make online safety a common discussion.
  • Talk about how creating or sharing content online can cause serious harm to others.
  • Help your young person understand that anything posted or shared becomes public even if it is sent to small groups of friends or as a joke.
  • Monitor the young persons online activities by asking what apps or tools they use.
  • Teach safe and respectful online behaviors, avoid lecturing.
  • Reinforce trust, ensure they can come to you if there is an incident online.

Community update

Seniors walking group walk their way to jail.

BC ambulance services community paramedic and the Pemberton Valley Senior Society walking group visited the Pemberton RCMP detachment on Wednesday March 18th.  The grownups were educated on jail cell procedures, shown different police equipment used by Pemberton RCMP, and shown all the equipment a police vehicle carries. For many it was the first time they had been inside a jail cell or seen inside a police vehicle.

April is Slow down and Move over Month.

In BC it is required for all road users to slow down and move over safely to provide room for vehicles with flashing red, blue, or yellow lights. The Pemberton RCMP will be conducting enforcement along Highway 99.  For more information check out the BC Government road safety website .

The Pemberton RCMP wants to remind driver that road users must slow their speed to:

  • 70 KM/H when in an 80 KM/H or over zone.
  • 40 KM/H when in an under 80 KM/H zone.
