Safety Talk
Did you know that an off-road vehicle is designed for off- highway use and does not meet the safety standards for on-highway use? All off-road vehicles are required to be registered and insured with a number plate displayed on Crown land, including resource roads in BC. To operate an off-road vehicle on public roads, highways, and forest service roads you require a valid BC driver license.
Types of off-road vehicles:
- Golf carts
- Snow mobiles
- All-Terrain Vehicles (includes side by sides)
- Restricted use Motorcycles
Common Off-Road Vehicle Act (ORVA) offences seen by police:
- No approved safety helmet – S.18(1) - $138.
- Use or operate off-road vehicle carelessly -S.17(1)(a) - $368.
- Use or operate off-road vehicle not registered under ORA or registered or license under MVA or CTA – S.14(a) &(b) - $230.

Community update
The Pemberton RCMP, Village of Pemberton, and Squamish-Lillooet Regional District patrol for trash.
April 22nd, 2026, was Pitch-in-day for the Village of Pemberton and Squamish-Lillooet Regional District staff. Cst. Vandebrand and Cst. Jarl of the Pemberton RCMP assisted the Village of Pemberton’s community services officer in cleaning up the downtown area. Cst. Vandebrand and Cst. Jarl, along with The Village of Pemberton’s Community service officer, patrolled the area for garbage. A total of 32 Kilograms (or ten raccoons worth) was collected by Village of Pemberton staff, Squamish-Lillooet Regional District and RCMP members.
May is High Risk Driving and Motorcycle Safety Month.
With warmer weather comes dryer road conditions, with dryer road conditions comes faster driving. The Pemberton RCMP is reminding drivers to use their road sense and drive safely. High risk driving and high-risk motorcycle driving can result in severe consequences. In BC excessive speed in considered to be 40 km/h over the posted speed limit. The Pemberton RCMP will be conducting check stops and speed enforcement along Highway 99.
Consequences of high-risk driving:
- Excessive speed if the speed limit is exceeded by 41km/h to 60 km/h – S.148(1) MVA - $368 + Vehicle impounded for 7 days.
- Excessive speed if the speed limit is exceeded by more than 60 km/h – S.148(1) MVA - $483 + Vehicle impounded for 7 days.
- Drive without due care and attention – S.144(1)(a) - $368 + 6 demerit points.
If you observe high risk driving, please call the Pemberton RCMP Non-Emergency number at 604-864-6634 or if there is an emergency, please call 911.
Police ask that you obtain the best description of the vehicle, driver, and direction of travel from where you are. This information will give officers the ability to coordinate, intercept, and stop the high-risk driving behavior.
