The City of Pitt Meadows and q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie) First Nation welcomed the much-anticipated opening of a new RCMP Detachment in Pitt Meadows.
A ceremony was held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, celebrating the official move of officers and staff of the Pitt Meadows RCMP into their central location on Harris Road. Approximately 75 people were in attendance including Public Safety Minister and Solicitor General, Nina Krieger; Member of Parliament, Marc Dalton; Member of Legislative Assembly Lisa Beare; Mayor Nicole MacDonald; q̓ic̓əy̓ Chief Grace George; Council Members from the City of Pitt Meadows and from q̓ic̓əy̓ and several members of the BC RCMP’s senior management team.

The ceremony opened with a traditional welcome, drumming and singing from q̓ic̓əy̓ Chief Grace George and q̓ic̓əy̓ Councillor David Kenworthy.
A Flag Raising Ceremony followed, to pay tribute to those who served in the surrounding communities in the past and present. The flags raised included: Canada; Province of BC; City of Pitt Meadows; and q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie) First Nation.
This milestone is the result of a multi-year project, approved by the Government of British Columbia in 2021, to de-integrate the previously shared detachment policing model between the Cities of Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge. The transition process of operating two autonomous detachments was completed on April 1, 2026 with the opening of the new Pitt Meadows RCMP Detachment, serving the residents of Pitt Meadows and q̓ic̓əy̓.
The new 19,000 sq ft facility boasts of modern amenities and state-of-the-art technology and equipment, with a dedicated ground-level volunteer/flex space and training room with floor to ceiling windows, and mass timber structural components in the lobby.
