Shortly before midnight on Monday, March 30, 2026, Prince George RCMP was notified that there was an unauthorized person inside a compound on the 2000-block of First Avenue.
Frontline police officers attended the area and swiftly located the man inside the compound by using a combination of traditional police tactics, a Police Dog Services team and a drone. The man was arrested without incident and transported to the Prince George RCMP detachment.
The suspect was identified as James Edward Martin Smith. Police officers also noted Mr. Smith had two outstanding unendorsed arrest warrants at the time of this arrest. Mr. Smith was held in custody until he could attend court.
“The speed at which investigators located and arrested the suspect was due in part to the quick notification to police of the occurrence, but also due to our blend of traditional police tactics with advancements in available technology. We look forward to the continued use and positive results we are seeing with the new technologies we have been integrating into our investigations,” states Corporal Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.
