Prince George RCMP have arrested one woman caught lighting fires in Downtown Prince George on April 24, 2026.

Frontline police officers received a call regarding the incident just after midnight on Friday. The witness reported seeing a woman light a fire in front of a business on the 1700-block of Victoria Street. The woman then continued along Victoria Street where she was observed lighting more fires.

Police officers located the woman on the 2000-block of Twentieth Avenue. After a short foot chase, the woman was arrested by police and held in custody until she could attend court. Multiple fires in the vicinity were observed and put out by police officers and Prince George Fire Rescue Services.

The woman was identified as 38-year-old Jessie Lynn Giroux, who is known to police. The following charges have been approved in this matter:

  • Arson causing damage to property
  • Obstructing a police officer

Ms. Giroux will remain in custody until her next court appearance.

“As the weather gets warmer and more people are staying outdoors later in the evening, Prince George RCMP will continue its targeted patrols in the downtown area, utilizing police officers and the RCMP Patrol Volunteers to help maintain public safety,” says Superintendent Darin Rappel, Officer in Charge of Prince George RCMP.
