At the start of July, Prince George RCMP’s Problem Oriented Policing (POP) team joined forces with multiple retailers to run a series of very successful Boost and Bust projects throughout Prince George.

Police officers partnered with retailers in Pine Centre Mall, Parkwood Mall, Walmart and Superstore to target ongoing commercial crimes affecting these stores. In total, the POP team arrested 40 people and recovered over $3400 worth of product.

“The goal of the Boost and Bust projects is to assist retail outlets in Prince George that are feeling the effects of repeated theft by targeting shoplifters, with the assistance of the Loss Prevention Officers already working in these locations,” states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

While working on this project, the POP team continued its proactive work within the community, conducting several traffic stops that resulted in further police action. Through these traffic stops, investigators seized approximately 180 grams of illicit narcotics, suspected to be fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine, and aided in the recovery of an additional $5000 in stolen property.

In 2026, Boost and Bust projects undertaken by the POP team resulted in approximately 60 arrests and the recovery of more than $5000 worth of merchandise. In some instances, where people have been arrested in more than one Boost and Bust project, this information is included in the Report to Crown Counsel for consideration during the charge approval process.
