BC RCMP and Yukon RCMP have launched a new recruiting process called Project Red Serge, which will allow all police officer applications from BC and Yukon to be processed, from intake to troop placement, right from your home province or territory. This new process will move key early screening tools (such as the Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) and indices checks) earlier in the process and will encourage greater communication between recruiters and applicants, as well as improve application processing times.

Prince George RCMP is excited to announce a recruitment information session for those interested in Project Red Serge and learning more about what it takes to become a member of the RCMP. The information session is open to all ages, because it’s never too early or too late to learn about a police officer career! The information session will be held at the City Police Detachment at 455 Victoria Street on July 21, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Here are some FAQs about joining the RCMP:

Q. What are the minimum qualifications to join?

A. You must be a Canadian Citizen or have three years’ Permanent Resident Status; be at least 18 years old; be proficient in English or French; have a valid, unrestricted Canadian driver’s license; and possess a Canadian high school diploma or equivalent.

Q. How long is the training and where is it held?

A. The training is 26 weeks long and is held at our National Training Facility (Depo) in Regina, Saskatchewan. We pay for all of your accommodations while you are there, including food and lodging. 

Q. Can I come back to Prince George?

A. While we can’t guarantee that you come back to Prince George, BC RCMP is currently promoting their Northern Recruiting Initiative and is looking for applicants interested in living and policing within Northern B.C. The BC RCMP provides policing services to a number of rural, coastal and urban communities, from 100 Mile House to the Yukon border and from Haidi Gwaii to the Alberta border. Those applicants interested in returning to Northern B.C. will be guaranteed a placement in Northern B.C.
