Richmond RCMP is investigating an increase in reported meat theft from retail locations across Richmond.
Between December 2025 and March 2026 Richmond RCMP received reports of 39 incidents of meat theft from retail locations in Richmond. While some thefts are believed to be opportunistic, the pattern and volume of thefts suggest potential organized activity, where police believe product may be stolen for resale.
Richmond RCMP reminds the public not to purchase meat from unverified or informal sources—such as individuals offering product outside of a licensed retail environment.
Product stolen from stores may have been subject to temperature changes or unsafe handling, making it a potential risk to anyone who consumes it.
“Whether these thefts are opportunistic or part of a more coordinated effort, we are devoting resources to disrupting this crime trend,” says Cst. Frank Bryson, Richmond RCMP Media Relations Officer. “Retail theft has real consequence for businesses, consumers, and for public safety. We take it seriously regardless of scale.”
See something in the meat aisle? Say something.
Richmond RCMP is asking members of the public to report suspicious behaviour observed in the meat sections of grocery and retail stores. This includes individuals who appear to be concealing product, loading unusually large quantities of meat into personal bags, or behaving in a way that seems out of place.
The public is urged not to confront individuals potentially engaged in retail theft, but to alert store staff immediately and to contact police if they observe a crime in progress.
