As part of ongoing high-risk driving enforcement efforts this May, Richmond RCMP conducted a targeted operation focused on speeding and unsafe driving behaviours.
In under 10 hours, officers and volunteers deployed at five roadside locations across the city. During that time:
- 84 speeding violation tickets were issued
- Approximately 31 additional tickets were issued for other driving offences
- Combined fines and penalty point premiums totalled about $21,823
- 179 warning letters were issued to registered vehicle owners observed speeding
Officers also stopped several drivers travelling at excessive speeds and others using electronic devices while driving.
“Slowing down gives drivers more time to react and helps prevent serious crashes,” said Cst. Christopher Lim of the Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit.
Enforcement efforts will continue throughout the month, with a focus on reducing high-risk driving behaviours and improving safety for all road users.
