Richmond RCMP is seeking the public's assistance in identifying a suspect believed to be responsible for a suspicious fire at a Richmond restaurant.
In the early morning hours of March 3, 2026, Richmond RCMP received a report of a structure fire at a restaurant in the 2800 block of Sexsmith Road. Richmond Fire-Rescue was already on scene and quickly brought the fire under control. The fire caused significant damage to the exterior of the building, particularly the restaurant's patio area. No injuries were reported.
Investigators have determined the fire is suspicious in nature and are seeking assistance from the public to identify an individual captured on surveillance footage in the area at the time of the incident.

CCTV video footage depicts an unidentified male walking along a sidewalk. The male is wearing a hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and carrying a backpack. One camera angle depicts the male reaching into his pocket and using an object that produces a flame to ignite the plastic curtain of an awning. The male subsequently continues walking away along the sidewalk.
Police are aware of information circulated on social media related to this incident, and asking the individuals who may have additional information, such as video footage, photographs, or knowledge related to this incident, to contact police directly as their information may assist the investigation.
"Even seemingly minor details may assist investigators in advancing this file. This includes individuals who have shared information about the fire on social media," said Corporal Melissa Lui, Media Relations Officer for Richmond RCMP. "It is important to not just share on social media but to share directly with police.”
