Salmon Arm: A woman reported receiving a suspicious phone call from someone who claimed to be a representative of Telus. The woman was offered a suspiciously large discount off her home services Telus bill; on the condition she ordered a new cell phone. The woman agreed to order a new cell phone and later received a $2000 cell phone in the mail. She was then contacted again by someone claiming to be from Telus and was told she was sent the wrong phone and was provided an address in Ontario to send it back to. The woman shipped the phone to the address without further investigating. Salmon Arm RCMP did an open internet search and quickly found the address the cell phone was shipped to, was a UPS pickup location. The woman was advised to monitor her bank accounts, and attend a Telus location in person to sort out her account. As the old saying goes, if it’s too good to be true, then it probably is.
Salmon Arm RCMP are advising residents receiving unsolicited phone calls from anyone proposing deals or discounts, should be treated as highly suspicious. Police recommend contacting the service provider themselves preferably in person, or through their verified website.

Moments later Salmon Arm RCMP observed an ambulance with lights and siren on pull off the highway and turn in towards the Shuswap Lake General Hospital. Police spoke with the complainant who believed the ambulance was in the wrong despite the ambulance making an obviously high priority trip to the hospital. Police explained to the man that emergency vehicles with lights and siren on may disregard rules and traffic control devices under section 122 of the motor vehicle act.
