Suspect arrested following bush fire in Salmon Arm

Salmon Arm RCMP have arrested a suspect following an investigation into what is believed to be a deliberately set fire Saturday evening.

On August 8, 2026, at approximately 5:56 p.m., Salmon Arm RCMP responded to a report of a fire on the 300-block Trans Canada Highway SW in Salmon Arm. Upon arrival, officers observed brush fully engulfed in flames and threatening a nearby business.

Police officers assisted members of the public in containing the fire until it was extinguished. Damage was limited to nearby bushes and trees, and no injuries were reported.

The investigation determined that the fire had apparently been intentionally set. Through their investigation, officers identified a suspect believed to be responsible.

The suspect was located and arrested without incident the following day.

"Thanks to the quick actions of responding officers and community members, the fire was extinguished before it could spread to nearby buildings," said S/Sgt. Simon Scott of the Salmon Arm RCMP. "The investigation remains ongoing and we continue to seek additional witnesses."
