Sidney/North Saanich RCMP advises of change to language designation

The Sidney/North Saanich RCMP is advising the public of an upcoming change to its service delivery model following results from the Government of Canada's decennial Official Languages Regulations Reapplication Exercise and consultations with the Official Language Minority Community.

Effective September 30, 2026, the Sidney/North Saanich RCMP Detachment, located at 9895 Fourth Street, Sidney, BC, will no longer be designated to provide immediate bilingual (English and French) front-line services. The detachment’s new linguistic designation will be English only. Members of the public requiring service in French will continue to have access to immediate bilingual services through the West Shore RCMP Detachment, located at 698 Atkins Avenue, Victoria.

This change is part of a government-wide review of the linguistic designation of all federal offices conducted in compliance with the Official Languages Act and the Official Languages (Communications with and Services to the Public) Regulations and led by the Treasury Board Secretariat.

The RCMP remains committed to providing services to members of the public in the official language of their choice, in accordance with the Official Languages Act and applicable regulations. 

Members of the public can consult the Government of Canada's Burolis directory to find federal offices that provide services in English and French.
