Charges laid following investigation into alleged illegal tobacco sales in Squamish

In the summer of 2025 Sea to Sky GIS – Squamish commenced an investigation into the sale of alleged illegal, unstamped tobacco products from a repurposed metal shipping container located at a busy intersection in the 40000-block of Government Road in Squamish.

In August 2025, investigators executed a search warrant at the location and numerous unstamped tobacco products and stamped vape products were seized. 

Following a comprehensive investigation, charges were laid on February 4, 2026, against Melanie Bob and Doran Lewis and both individuals are charged with various counts of:

  • Unlawfully being in possession of and selling unstamped tobacco, contrary to the Excise Act
  • Unlawfully being in possession of and selling unstamped tobacco, contrary to the Tobacco Tax Act

“These types of investigations are important to ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations designed to protect public health and reduce contraband activity” said Sgt. Jeff Shore NCO i/c Sea to Sky GIS.

The accused are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
