Sunshine Coast RCMP is clarifying misinformation being shared online regarding an incident that occurred earlier this month in the Porpoise Bay area.
On November 7, 2025, at approximately 9:12 p.m., Sunshine Coast RCMP received a report of rocks placed across the roadway in the 6500-block of Sechelt Inlet Road, along with individuals seen running in the nearby bushes.
Police responded, conducted foot patrols and did not locate anyone at the time. Through follow-up investigation police confirmed that local youth were responsible for placing the rocks on the road. The youths have taken responsibility for their actions, guardians have been engaged, and no charges are being recommended.
“We are aware of social media posts circulating online suggesting the rocks were placed as part of a sex-trafficking tactic,” says S/Sgt. Jennifer Prunty, “Posts like this create unnecessary fear and we want to assure the public that there is no evidence to support this speculation.”
Police encourage residents to contact the RCMP directly with concerns so accurate information can be provided.
