Robbery suspects arrested in Sechelt

On August 12th, 2026 at 10:30 am, the Sunshine Coast RCMP responded to a robbery that had just occurred in the 5600 block of Cowrie Street in Sechelt.  Store staff had attempted to stop a female shoplifter from leaving the store with unpaid items.  The suspect told staff if they were prevented from leaving the store they would stab them and brandished a pocket knife.  Store staff allowed the female suspect to leave and she then fled to a vehicle waiting nearby.  

A passerby witnessed part of the altercation and was able to obtain photographs of the suspect and the vehicle and provided police with the vehicle's license plate information.  Frontline officers were immediately in the area and located the vehicle in Sechelt.  A male and female were arrested in connection with the incident.  Both individuals are known to police and reside on the Sunshine Coast.  Fortunately no one was injured during this incident.  

The Sunshine Coast RCMP are reminding business owners that their safety should be a priority during thefts.  Staff are not encouraged to physically intervene or confront individuals who are stealing, as these situations can quickly escalate into violent confrontations.  Anyone witnessing a theft or other criminal activity is encouraged to contact police and provide as much information as possible including descriptions of the individuals and vehicles involved.  If anyone has dash cam footage or surveillance video of this incident and have not already spoken with police, please call us at 604-885-2266.
