On September 2, 2026, at approximately 6:30 a.m., members of the Sechelt Fire Department were responding to a fire alarm when an individual broke into a fire truck and stole several pieces of equipment, including tools used in emergency and life-saving situations.
Given the critical importance of the stolen equipment to public safety, Sunshine Coast RCMP made the investigation a priority.
Within 24 hours, investigators identified and arrested a suspect and successfully recovered all of the stolen equipment.
Police would like to thank everyone who assisted with the investigation and remind the community of the invaluable service firefighters provide every day.
"Sunshine Coast RCMP is pleased to have recovered the equipment and returned it to our friends at the fire department," said Corporal Philippe Atoui. "We'll save the usual police-fire rivalry for another day."
