The Sunshine Coast RCMP have received an increase in calls relating to bear activity on the Sunshine Coast especially in Pender Harbour, Madeira Park and Sechelt.

Conservation officers believe some of the bears may be lingering in communities due to numerous fruit trees. Residents are advised to ensure all attractants are properly managed by picking fruit from trees and the ground, securing garbage and removing birdfeeders. Don’t give bears a reason to linger in communities and create risk to people and themselves.

Conservation will continue to monitor bear activity and respond as necessary to ensure public safety. Reports of bear sightings can be made to the RAPP line at 1-877-952-7277.
