The need for a late night snack Halloween night resulted in a 28 year old Sunshine Coast man having his vehicle impounded for 30 days and losing his license for 90 days after driving into the back of a police vehicle. On November 1, 2026, at approximately 2:00 a.m., members with the BC Highway Patrol responded to the drive through at 5615 Sunshine Coast Highway in Sechelt, to assist in the impaired driving investigation. Fortunately, the slow speed collision did not result in any injuries for the RCMP officer or the impaired driver who was dressed as a Disney character for Halloween.
Members from the BC Highway Patrol continued to be kept busy on the Sunshine Coast this Halloween weekend with enforcement that resulted in seven Roadside Prohibitions due to impaired driving, 17 violation tickets issued for no vehicle insurance, 27 tickets for a variety of other driving offences as well as a Vancouver Island man was arrested on an unendorsed warrant.
Some interactions of note included a vehicle that was impounded and the driver ticketed for excessive speeding after it passed a marked police vehicle driving 44 km over the speed limit. In another instance, a motorcycle cut off a marked police vehicle and was found to have no drivers license, no insurance and provided 2 breath samples that resulted in a “Fail” reading. The motorcycle was impounded for 30 days and the driver received multiple violation tickets.
With the holiday season approaching, the public can expect increased police presence on the local roadways, with the Sunshine Coast RCMP and BC Highway Patrol actively targeting impaired and unsafe drivers.
