From August 17 to 23, 2026, Terrace RCMP responded to approximately 243 calls for service. Officers remained busy addressing crimes against property, traffic safety violations, fraud, and alcohol and drug-related incidents, while also providing additional policing support during this year's carnival. Below are some highlights from the week.

On August 17, Terrace RCMP received a report of a break and entering an apartment on Lazelle Avenue.  The investigation determined that a man had entered the apartment at approximately 6:30 p.m. and left the apartment shortly after, having taken several items from inside. The man was identified and arrested for the offence and held in custody.  Charges have been approved for:

1. Break and enter a dwelling house
2. Theft of Property

The man has been held in custody at this time. (2026-7191)

On August 18, at approximately 11:00 a.m., police observed a youth operating an electric dirt bike and towing another youth cyclist on their bike by holding their hand.   The pair were riding on Eby Street making their way to Soucie Avenue where the officer spoke with them in a driveway.  The youth was warned that the electric dirt bike is illegal to operate on streets and that it requires a motorcycle license, and proper motorcycle helmet.  He was also reminded not to ride it on the nearby Howe Creek Trail systems. On August 18, a woman reported a phone call scam that was committed by someone pretending to be from Telus.  The scammer was able to access the woman’s computer and eventually obtained $1000 from the woman’s bank account.  The woman advised that her bank was handling the situation and that no further police involvement was required.  RCMP would like to remind the public to be vigilant against scams delivered by phone, text message, email, and social media.  Scammers often impersonate trusted organizations and use urgent requests, threats or attractive offers to obtain personal or financial information. Residents should:

1. Be cautious of unsolicited communications
2. Avoid clicking suspicious links
3. Independently verify requests before responding

Anyone who suspects a scam should cease contact immediately and report it to the organization being impersonated and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.  Victims of fraud should contact their financial institution and report the incident to police. (2026-7210)

Between August 21 and 23, the annual carnival generated several additional calls for service, including:

1. an arrest for public intoxication resulting in one woman lodged in police cells to sober up
2. reports of harassment taking place between two carnival goers
3. one man located passed out on a trailer at the carnival after hours. The man was able to care for himself and departed on foot.
4. One man located in an apparent state of intoxication by drug.  The man’s health and safety were of concern and EHS was called to transport him to hospital for further care.
5. An impaired driver located in the care and control of a vehicle in the parking lot.  The man provided a breath sample which showed that he had consumed alcohol.  He was issued an immediate roadside driving prohibition and his vehicle was towed.

On August 22, around 5:00 pm, an officer with BC Highway Patrol was conducting patrols around Munroe Street and observed two vehicles that appeared to be racing. They were confirmed by radar to be travelling at speeds of 133 km/h and 96 km/h in a marked 50 km/h zone. Following a traffic stop, both drivers were issued violation tickets for excessive speed and both vehicles were impounded for 7 days.
