Trail RCMP are investigating a fatal single vehicle incident that occurred early Sunday morning.
On May 25, 2026, at approximately 4:25 a.m., Trail RCMP were called to a motor vehicle incident on Highway 3B near 10th Street in Montrose, BC. Witnesses on scene reported the motorcycle had hit an elk.
Emergency responders attended, however despite their efforts, the lone rider, a 27-year-old man from Fruitvale, sustained serious injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Trail RCMP determined that there is no criminality regarding the incident. The BC Coroners Service will assume the investigation with support from the Trail RCMP.
“This is a tragic loss that will be felt deeply in a close-knit community like ours,” says Trail Detachment Commander Staff Sergeant Dave Johnson. “Incidents involving wildlife can happen suddenly and with little warning, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to the man’s family, friends, and all those affected by this incident.”
