Multiple windows of businesses and vehicles damaged in early morning spree

A 30-year-old Trail man is facing multiple mischief charges following a series of incidents that resulted in damage to several businesses and vehicles in downtown Trail.

On September 29, 2026, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Trail RCMP responded to reports of an individual damaging windows of businesses and vehicles in the downtown area. Frontline officers attended and quickly identified a suspect through information provided by witnesses and members of the public.

Officers located and arrested 30-year-old Matthew Leavitt of Trail and he has been charged with six counts of Mischief. Leavitt was remanded into custody and remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

“The quick identification and arrest of the suspect was made possible through the timely reporting by citizens and the assistance of witnesses who provided information to investigators,” said Staff Sergeant Dave Johnson, Detachment Commander of the Trail RCMP. “Addressing these types of disturbances and damage to property with consequences and accountability is a key component of keeping our community safe. Trail RCMP would like to thank the citizens who assisted in identifying and locating the suspect.”
