Police investigate suspicious death

Criminality is suspected in the death of a woman in Vernon. On the evening of Monday August 24, 2026, frontline officers from the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to a suspicious death after a 54-year-old woman was found unresponsive in her basement suite on 24th Avenue.    

“The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit has been engaged in the investigation from the onset.” said Cpl Tania Finn, Media Relations Officer with the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP.  “As the team continues to follow up on all relevant information, police are reaching out to the public for assistance with this investigation.” 

One of the many avenues of investigation police are examining is video surveillance from the area.  Police are seeking anyone with dashboard camera footage related to their travels on 24th Avenue in Vernon between 34th Street and 39th Street, from 10:00 am on Saturday August 22, 2026, to 7:00 pm on Monday August 24, 2026.  Should you have any footage during this timeframe, please contact the Vernon RCMP Detachment at (250) 545-7171.   The investigation is in the early stages and, to protect the integrity of the investigation, no further details will be released at this time.
