On August 30, 2025, at approximately 10:30 p.m., West Shore RCMP Frontline Officers responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver on Ocean Boulevard in Colwood. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop with a black Mazda CX-5. Instead of stopping, the driver sped away, committing several dangerous motor vehicle infractions in the process.

A short time later, officers located the vehicle and arrested the driver, a 43-year-old Victoria man.

The driver was issued multiple violation tickets totaling over $1,000 in fines and 16 driver penalty points, including:

  • Excessive Speed – $483 fine, 3 points;
  • Crossing a Solid Double Line – $109 fine, 3 points;
  • Failing to Stop for Police – $144 fine, 3 points;
  • Failing to Take Proper Precautions for Vulnerable Road Users – $109 fine, 3 points;
  • Illegal Pass on a Lane Roadway – $109 fine, 2 points;
  • Unsafe U-Turn – $121 fine, 2 points.

In addition, the vehicle was impounded, and a notice was served for stunting and excessive speed.

“This driver’s reckless actions put themselves, our officers, and members of the public at significant risk,” says Cpl. Mike Jacobson of the West Shore RCMP Traffic Unit. “We want to remind motorists that failing to stop for police is a serious offence, and the consequences can include Criminal Code charges, fines, points on your license, and possibly losing your vehicle.”
