The West Shore RCMP is currently investigating a report involving a local construction company whose computer system was compromised, resulting in fraudulent invoices being sent to clients in October 2025.

The company has already contacted its clientele to advise them of the situation and to ensure no further losses occur. As part of our ongoing investigation, West Shore RCMP are notifying the public and local businesses of this incident to raise awareness about the potential for similar types of fraud.

“Cybercrime and fraud targeting businesses are becoming increasingly sophisticated,” said Cpl. Nancy, Media Relations Officer, West Shore RCMP. “We encourage all businesses and individuals to take proactive steps to secure their systems and verify any suspicious financial requests before taking action.”

Tips to protect your business and personal information:

  • Use strong passwords and change them regularly;
  • Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) wherever possible to add an extra layer of security;
  • Verify invoices and payment requests by contacting the business directly using known contact information, not the information provided in the email;
  • Be cautious with email attachments and links—even if the message appears to come from a trusted source;
  • Regularly back up important data and ensure systems are protected with updated antivirus software;
  • Educate staff on common phishing and fraud schemes to help identify suspicious activity early;

If you believe your business or personal information may have been compromised, please report it to the West Shore RCMP 250-474-2264, or call your local police of jurisdiction.
