West Shore RCMP are reminding drivers that street racing puts everyone at risk after two vehicles were impounded following a collision on the Trans-Canada Highway in View Royal.

On May 9, 2026, at approximately 7:20 p.m., West Shore RCMP frontline officers responded to a collision near the 1900 block of the Trans-Canada Highway after receiving reports of a 2002 Ford Ranger that had rolled multiple times before coming to rest on the highway median.

Witnesses told police the Ford Ranger had been driving erratically prior to the collision and had sideswiped another vehicle while changing lanes at a high rate of speed. Through their investigation, officers determined the driver of the Ford Ranger had been street racing with the driver of a 2021 Dodge Ram.

Both drivers were issued violation tickets under the Motor Vehicle Act for driving without consideration, resulting in a $196 fine and six penalty points each. Both vehicles were also impounded for seven days.

The driver of the Ford Ranger was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

“Street racing is reckless behaviour that puts not only the drivers involved at risk, but every other person sharing the road,” said Cpl. Nancy Saggar, West Shore RCMP Media Relations Officer. “Road safety is everyone’s responsibility. Choosing to race on public roads can have serious and lasting consequences, and we encourage all drivers to make safe, responsible decisions behind the wheel.”

West Shore RCMP continue to prioritize road safety enforcement throughout the region and remind motorists that dangerous driving behaviours will not be tolerated.
