West Shore RCMP raises $40,000 for 2026 Tour de Rock

West Shore RCMP is proud to announce that its community fundraising efforts have raised $40,000 in support of the Canadian Cancer Society’s Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock.

The funds were raised through two community events hosted by West Shore RCMP this year: the inaugural West Shore RCMP Golf Tournament at Olympic View Golf Course and the third annual Barn Dance at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 91.

The inaugural Golf Tournament was a tremendous success, raising $30,000 for Tour de Rock. The event would not have been possible without the generous support of title sponsor Maxxam Insurance, partner sponsor Elements Casino, and the many businesses and community members who donated, participated and helped bring the tournament together.

The annual Barn Dance, a western-themed evening featuring live music and a BBQ dinner, raised an additional $10,000. West Shore RCMP extends its thanks to title sponsor Westshore Towing and partner sponsor Quality Foods Langford, as well as everyone who came out and supported the event.

Together, these events demonstrate the incredible impact that can come from bringing local businesses, community members and police officers together for a common cause.

Funds raised through Cops for Cancer support childhood cancer research and programs such as Camp Goodtimes, which provides children living with cancer and their families with a safe and supportive camp experience.

“Seeing our community come together at these events has been incredibly rewarding,” said Superintendent Terry Gillespie, Officer in Charge of West Shore RCMP. “The generosity of our local businesses, sponsors and community members makes these events possible and, more importantly, helps support children and families facing cancer. We’re grateful to everyone who played a part.”

The fundraising efforts continue as the 2026 Tour de Rock ride gets underway this weekend. Four West Shore RCMP officers - S/Sgt. Ryan Walsh, Cst. Kim Bridgman, Cst. Pam Thiffeault and Cst. Mary-Ellen Somerville - will join officers and other emergency personal from across Vancouver Island for the annual ride in support of childhood cancer.

Together, the four West Shore riders have already raised more than $26,100, in addition to the $40,000 raised through the West Shore RCMP’s community fundraising events.

West Shore RCMP thanks all of the sponsors, donors, participants, volunteers and community members who helped make this year’s fundraising efforts possible.
