Did you know

"Rough Riders", the team name still used by the Saskatchewan Roughriders, dates back to the Northwest Mounted Police when the "Rough Riders" were responsible for the horses and equitation instruction.

As proud fans of the Canadian Football League (CFL), the RCMP is pleased to be building on our relationship with Canada’s national football league. This season, you're invited to join the RCMP and the CFL at football games and community events across the country.

The RCMP and the CFL share many important values. We're both proudly Canadian, value reconciliation and diversity, and work to build strong relationships within our communities.

The RCMP has a longstanding relationship with the CFL. Each year, RCMP officers escort the Grey Cup onto the field before it's presented to the new league champions. Throughout the season, RCMP employees can be seen at CFL stadiums, helping with important ceremonies and adding to special presentations.

Our history with the CFL dates back more than 100 years ago when Corporal Brian Mercer Timmins joined the RCMP in 1920. He played with three CFL teams from 1920 to 1938 and won three Grey Cups with Hamilton. In the 1930's, Lance/Corporal Charles Bismark "Tiny" Hermann played for the Ottawa Rough Riders where he won a Grey Cup.

Stay tuned for more information about what's happening this year, including the opportunity to get up close and personal with the Grey Cup as it joins the RCMP to visit a number of communities, and two educational events to where you can meet RCMP employees to learn more about our organization.
