Indigenous Applicant Mentorship Program

Mentorship can help people see themselves as leaders in policing. We want to welcome more Indigenous candidates into policing by supporting applicants through the Indigenous Applicant Mentorship for RCMP (I-AM-RCMP). This program connects Indigenous applicants with experienced Indigenous RCMP police officers who provide personalized guidance, encouragement, and insight throughout the application process.

About the mentorship program

A mentorship program isn't just about individual success – it's about creating a ripple effect that leads to better communication and understanding about policing at the RCMP.

Mentors and mentees can connect to:

  • reflect on their identity, and share lived experiences and insights
  • discuss questions about the application process
  • provide and receive encouragement and culturally relevant support

What to expect

As a mentee in the I-AM-RCMP program, you will:

  • be matched with an RCMP member who self-identifies as First Nations, Inuit, or Métis and understands the unique challenges and strengths Indigenous applicants bring to the RCMP
  • receive personalized support throughout the RCMP's application process, from submitting your application on GC Jobs to preparing for the RCMP Entrance Exam, fitness assessments and interviews
  • gain insight into the RCMP Academy, Depot Division, in Regina, Saskatchewan, and what to expect during the 26-week Cadet Training Program
  • learn about the RCMP's core values, organizational culture, and the wide range of career paths available within the organization
  • be treated with fairness, respect, and transparency, and build a meaningful connection with your mentor that may continue beyond the application process

Become a mentee

Are you an Indigenous applicant interested in being paired with a mentor through the I-AM-RCMP mentorship program?

Once you apply to become a police officer, confirm that you meet the basic requirements, and you self-identify as First Nations, Inuit, or Métis, you'll have the option to be paired with a mentor to guide you through the application process. While the program is formally offered after an application is submitted, you can contact a recruiter and request to be matched with a mentor sooner so you can feel supported, inspired, and excited to apply.
