Upon successful completion of the Cadet Training Program, the majority of cadets at Depot will be posted to a General Duty position in a contract division (province or territory where the RCMP has contracts - all except Ontario and Quebec). After completing about 6 months of field coaching training at their detachment, and after several years of general duty policing, these new police officers can compete for opportunities in more specialized units or areas of the RCMP. The skillset and abilities, a willingness for mobility, and the member's area of interest will play a large factor in determining the time line and potential for specialization opportunities.
