Overview
The RCMP piloted its Public Consultation platform for the Transparency Policy draft on November 4, 2024. This public consultation pilot was aimed at actively involving our communities in decision-making and increasing public trust by aligning with RCMP mandates for transparency. It is critical that we enable our communities to provide their feedback, participate in decisions that will affect them and better reflect their needs and expectations. As part of our commitment to open dialogue, we will promptly inform communities of decisions and recommendations made through the consultation.
The Transparency Policy draft provides direction on increasing transparency in policing and contributes to our vision of becoming an open-by-design RCMP that we committed to in the RCMP Transparency and Trust Strategy.
We also committed to establishing an RCMP Multi-Stakeholder Forum within the Strategy and Canada's 5th Nation Action Plan on Open Government. The Forum will bridge the gap between civil society, non-government stakeholders and the RCMP, to encourage more open and equitable decision making, participation activities, and dialogue related to the RCMP's commitments to transparency and trust. In early 2025, we consulted our Canadian communities on the Draft Multi-Stakeholder Forum Strategic Plan to further increase engagement and enable discussions around priorities and areas of focus for RCMP transparency initiatives.
Consultation platform
The Transparency Policy draft consultation was conducted through a specialized online tool. The platform verifies that the participants are not AI generated users, ensuring that engagement is coming from real people from our Canadian communities. The platform separates privacy and authentication, meaning that while it verifies participants are real individuals, it safeguards their anonymity throughout the process. The RCMP assured participants that it will only collect opinions and ideas throughout the consultation process, not personal information, to maintain confidentiality.
RCMP Transparency Policy
The Open Government Office of the RCMP conducted a public consultation to collect feedback on the draft RCMP Transparency Policy in upholding open government principles:

- Participation
Held from November 5 to November 22, 2024, the consultation utilized a secure online platform, to foster discussions and gather nationwide feedback. Open-ended questions encouraged meaningful contributions from participant, helping the RCMP gauge public perspectives on the Policy.
