The Sunset Ceremonies are a cherished summer tradition that brings together neighbours, visitors, families and friends at the RCMP Academy.

The RCMP Academy is welcoming the public back to Depot for Sunset Ceremonies this July! There are four shows, each featuring a unique theme and special guests who will help celebrate the people and partnerships that make our communities strong.

  • July 1 - Canada Day Celebration
  • July 7 - First Responder Appreciation Night
  • July 14 - Sports in the Community Night – Guests are encouraged to wear their favourite team jersey.
  • July 21 - Military Appreciation Night

The Sunset Ceremonies are a cherished summer tradition that brings together neighbours, visitors, families and friends at the RCMP Academy. The shows include a foot-drill display performed by cadets wearing scarlet tunics, a field gun drill and the ceremonial lowering of the Canadian flag at sunset.

All Sunset Ceremonies are free and open to the public. Access to Depot is available through the RCMP Heritage Centre entrance at 5907 Dewdney Avenue. Gates open at 5:30 PM, with ceremonies beginning promptly at 6:00 PM on Parade Square.

To enjoy the full experience there are a few things guests need to know:

  • The RCMP Academy is an active training site and a secure facility. Access is controlled. Personal items may be searched on entry.
  • This event potentially includes live field gun (cannon) and rifle fire. We recommend guests bring hearing protection, especially for young children.
  • Please do not bring your pets. Service dogs are welcome.
  • Please bring a blanket or lawn chairs. Seating is not provided.
  • We encourage guests with mobility needs to arrive early and park closest to the south end of the Heritage Centre parking lot.
  • The RCMP Heritage Centre will run a trolley for those with mobility issues.
  • These events are weather dependent. In case of inclement weather, updates will be posted on RCMP Depot’s website and social media accounts.

Quotes

Sunset Ceremonies are a great opportunity to welcome our community into the RCMP Academy to share a tradition that has brought people together for over 60 years. Each evening allows us to recognize those who serve, celebrate our community partners and reflect on the values that connect us all.
