Introduction

The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is a special library committed to providing high quality collections, electronic resources and library services to cadets and employees of the RCMP Academy, as well as distance learners.

Material is available on law enforcement, criminology, investigative techniques, RCMP history, social and political sciences, administration, technology and many other topics related to policing.

Although our main focus is supporting RCMP cadets and employees, the LRC also responds to the information needs of law enforcement personnel across Canada, as well as instructors and researchers working in related fields.

Hours of operation

Bibliotheraphy

Bibliotherapy is the theory and practice that books and reading can help people address and overcome mental health issues, and better handle social, emotional, and personal problems. Evidence shows that reading can be a therapeutic process and improve mental well-being in a variety of ways.

The bibliotherapy collection is made up of fiction, non-fiction and self-help books, audio-books, and e-books. The titles are grouped into nine categories corresponding to common mental health and emotional issues, including: anger, grief and bereavement, stress, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, depression, anxiety, mindfulness and mental wellness, suicide, and substance dependency. The collection is designed to support and serve the mental health and wellness needs of cadets, members, and all other Depot staff.

Bibliotherapy is not a substitute for professional mental health treatment, care, or information. Reading can be very powerful and transformative, but it also has its limits. If you are experiencing mental health challenges, there are a number of other resources available.

The entire collection is available through the library catalogue. E-books and audiobooks are available through OverDrive.
