Training Tuesdays: Body-worn cameras

Body-worn cameras are not just technology, they are tools for accountability, transparency and trust.

First posted on September 23, 2025

Welcome to another edition of Training Tuesday – this one is all about body-worn cameras. The use of body-worn cameras (BWC) is now a national standard for general duty police officers of the RCMP. Starting with Troop 01 2025-26, all RCMP Cadets will be trained in BWC policy and use in the Cadet Training Program.

Cadets receive a BWC in the early weeks of training at the RCMP Academy to use in all scenario-based training. Cadets must demonstrate proper use of the BWC as per RCMP policy and procedures. Additionally, the BWCs can be used as a learning tool, as there are opportunities to review footage from scenarios.

Body-worn cameras are not just technology, they are tools for accountability, transparency and trust. They can help resolve public complaints more quickly and improve evidence gathering.

All frontline uniformed RCMP officers who interact with the public will be equipped with a personal-issue body-worn camera. This will include officers in contract policing and a small number of members in some federal policing units.
