Training Tuesdays: Conducted Energy Weapon training for cadets

First posted on July 23, 2024
In April 2024, we added Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) training, also known as Taser™, to our Cadet Training Program. This new training helps cadets learn to use and handle CEWs safely, preparing them for real-life situations.
Cadets start by learning about the CEW's parts and how it works. They spend several sessions in the classroom practicing how to use it correctly. The training also teaches cadets the right situations to use a CEW, making sure they can make good decisions when they need to. Cadets practice every week as part of their regular training. Later, they will apply the skills learned in the classroom in scenario-based training.
The scenario-based exercises are an important part of the training. These exercises give cadets hands-on experience in situations that are similar to what they will face in the field. This helps them apply what they've learned in a safe environment.
By the end of their training, cadets are skilled and confident in using CEWs. They are ready to carry and use these devices safely when they start working in their detachments. This training makes sure they can handle high-risk situations and keep themselves and others safe.
