Training Tuesdays: The senior troop

It is easy to tell who is in the senior troop. They wear their Stetson hats during the training day, name tags on their duty shirts and epaulettes with a red stripe.

While all cadets at Depot have different roles outside of training, the senior troops are unique. These cadets act as Troop Commanders during each morning parade and at the Sergeant-Major's parade on Fridays. They also take on the role of the mess orderly, and delegate tasks to junior troops if need be. The Senior Troop also raises and lowers the Canada flag every day.

Most importantly, they mentor other troops on base. Senior cadets guide and provide advice to those more junior, and share tips and tricks they have learned during their training.

While these extra duties are an honour, they also help the senior troop understand the standards expected of them once they graduate. As brand-new Constables, they will soon be leaders in their community.
