Training Tuesdays: Tire Deflation Device Course

The Cadet Training Program is under continuous evaluation and revision. This ensures that the curriculum continues to have innovative and progressive training material and prepares our new Members for the operational needs of the field.
Starting January 6, 2025, the Tire Deflation Device (TDD) course has been fully integrated into the Cadet Training Program as part of basic training. Before an RCMP member can utilize TDD in the field, they must complete formal training. By adding this into the Cadet Trainnig Program, newly graduated constables from the RCMP Academy will arrive at their detachments fully trained and ready to make use of this tool. Not only does this help minimize risk to public and police safety when there is a need to deploy a TDD, it also supports detachment resourcing.
We'd like to highlight that learning continues after Depot. First, new constables are paired up with an experienced police officer at their first posting: a field coach. Field coaching is an integral part of training that provides guidance, support and feedback for all new constables. It further develops skills required to be a police officer in an operational setting.
Following field coaching, training is on-going and dynamic throughout a career with the RCMP. There are annual re-certifications, courses and new training as policing evolves.
